Ward Dumptruck Hire take first Volvo A25E
BRIAN Ward of Selby, North Yorkshire, owner operator of Ward Dumptruck Hire, has taken delivery of the first Volvo A25E articulated dumptruck to arrive in Great Britain, and has a further two units on order for delivery next spring.
Mr Ward, who decided to established his own company in 2004 having operated a wide range of dumptrucks and other plant for various companies for many years, has found a niche in the market offering his services to main contractors on large muck-shifting and earthworks projects around the country.
The recently launched Volvo A25E is equipped with a high-performance Volvo 9-litre turbo-charged, low-emission diesel engine, which develops 305hp and delivers high torque at low engine speed. The machine has all-wheel drive and 100% differential-locks, giving the operator many driving options and allowing the hauler to in practically any conditions, economically and efficiently. The entire drivetrain – engine, transmission, dropbox and axles – is made up of Volvo components.
A feature unique to Volvo is the machine’s patented load and dump brake. When the hauler is in position for loading or dumping, the operator presses a button to automatically apply the brakes and place the transmission in neutral, thereby improving safety and minimizing wear on the brakes and drivetrain. Once loading or dumping has been completed, the operator selects a gear and the load and dump brake is disengaged.
The dump body itself has a load capacity of 24,000kg (15 cubic metre heaped SAE 2:1 volume) and is constructed from 400HB steel throughout.
Commenting on his newly acquired A25E, which has gone to work for a new client and is currently engaged in hauling topsoil and sub-base material to create re-levelled playing fields at a private school on the outskirts of Leeds, Brian Ward said: ‘I’ve driven them all, but there’s no beating the performance, reliability and, above all, comfort you get with a Volvo hauler. Operating Volvo equipment is a door-opener to new business.’
