Volvo Trucks announce TIP-Ex 2016 line-up
Swedish manufacturer to display a selection of FMX, FM and FH trucks at Harrogate
VOLVO Trucks will be showcasing four vehicles at the annual TIP-Ex show in Harrogate from 2-4 June 2016. Demonstrating the versatility of Volvo’s range of four-axle chassis, three of the trucks on display will be bodied 8x4 tippers featuring specifications carefully configured for a wide cross-section of typical multi-axle tipper operations.
The FMX truck will be fitted with a Thomson steel body, while the two FM units will feature aluminium bodies from Wilcox and PPG. The Wilcox alloy body is built to be suitable for N3G off-road application, whilst in line with the spec of the FM chassis to which it is mounted, the PPG alloy body is constructed for N3 on-road use, such as aggregates.
With its 8x4 X-High B-Ride chassis and straight front axles, the FMX also conforms to the N3G off-road specification. The sleeper-cabbed FMX truck is powered by a 13-litre D13K540 engine (540hp) and fitted with a retarder which delivers 375kW of retardation at 2,300 rev/min.
Both FM trucks are equipped with the payload-friendly, fuel-efficient 11-litre D11450 engine, delivering 450hp. The sleeper-cabbed FM on display features N3 on-road specification, which includes cranked beam front-axles and B-Ride parabolic spring rear suspension.
All three eight-wheelers will be joined at TIP-Ex 2016 by a high-specification Globetrotter XL-cabbed FH 6x2 tractor unit. The tipper is fitted with a lightweight pusher-axle rated at 4,500kg, while the front axle is rated at 8,500kg.
The 3,800mm wheelbase tractor unit also features air-suspension on all three axles. The FH truck is powered by a Volvo D13K540 engine (540hp) with a 12-speed AT2612E I-Shift gearbox. The use of Durabrite wheels helps reduce the unladen weight of the tractor unit.
For added driver convenience and security, the FH is equipped with a full package of Volvo’s latest safety systems, including: Active Safety+; a visibility package; an electronic stability programme; adaptive cruise control; forward collision warning; lane change support; and driver alert support.
