Volvo launch crawler excavator production in Europe
VOLVO Construction Equipment have introduced the production of B-series crawler excavators to their existing wheeled excavator and compact wheel-loader factory in Konz, Germany. The company say the move will strengthen their ability to meet varying equipment needs and shorten delivery lead time for their European customers.
The 100,000m2 Konz factory has recently undergone a Euro 7 million reorganization to accommodate the new 120m long production line, substantially increasing Volvo’s worldwide tracked excavator capacity. Production has commenced with the EC140B and EC210B models and it is expected that EC160B and EC180B production will also be introduced in the medium term.
Volvo say the location of the Konz factory, close to the borders with Belgium, Luxembourg and France, will bring with it a number of advantages for customers. Situated in a central location to many component suppliers, the company will be able to more rapidly accommodate special application requirements, allowing greater flexibilty in final specification and avoiding delays from suppliers of slow-moving heavy items such as engines, counterweights and undercarriages.
