Volvo equipment for Chepstow Plant (International)

As part of a Volvo purchase package, Chepstow Plant (International) Ltd have significantly expanded their fleet with the addition of 26 haulers (A25 and A40 models), five loading shovels, several L120F and L150 loaders, and five excavators, including a 70-tonne EC700BLC and an EC360C LC – the first to be delivered in the UK.

The plant-hire firm’s managing director, John Corcoran, said the main reason for supplementing the fleet was to bring added value to their customers.

‘It’s not simply a case of getting the best price for the machine and then putting it out on hire, we are now looking to use the technology available for this equipment to demonstrate and prove to our customers that we can deliver the best quality and service,’ he explained.

‘That’s why we are purchasing machines from Volvo with the Caretrack advanced tracking system and Matris monitoring and diagnostic tools, to provide added value and to further our working relationships with clients.’

One of the new Volvo machines to have started work is the EC700BLC excavator, currently involved in a high-profile quarrying application in the South West. The machine, the second in the company’s fleet, is equipped with a hydraulic quick hitch that works with a ripper tooth to rip rock and overburden from situ. It then uses a bulk bucket to load the extracted material on to a dumptruck.

According to Mr Corcoran, the excavator has reduced the customer’s fuel consumption by as much as 40 litres/h, thereby providing a 50% overall saving. ‘So far the machine is performing very well and living up to the expectations of our customer,’ he said.
