Volvo Construction Equipment in Sunday Times Top 100…again!

Volvo staff receiving their award

Leading machinery supplier Volvo Construction Equipment have once again been listed in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For in the UK and retained their two star ‘Outstanding’ accreditation.

Volvo Construction Equipment have their own internal engagement survey but wanted to validate this with an external national benchmark. With over 1,000 organizations applying to undergo the rigorous assessment of employee engagement and over 400,000 employees surveyed across the UK, the Best Companies survey is one of the most comprehensive and respected benchmarks available.

The results are impressive with 87% of Volvo employees demonstrating high levels of engagement in the business.

‘We are delighted to be listed in the Best 100 again,’ commented managing director Nick Allen, ‘but the most important thing for us is what we can learn from the data. Using feedback from our employees to deliver continuous improvement is what makes this process so valuable.’

And the evidence is there to support this. In the previous Best Companies survey there was a clear message from staff that they felt they could do little as individuals to influence the company bonus scheme. The company took that on board and with some expert external advice introduced a new scheme which links reward more directly to people’s efforts.

‘Our customer satisfaction survey scores are extremely good, and we are proud of the level of service our people give our customers. We understand that to stay ahead of the game you need engaged people and ensure they have the right skills. We invested heavily in training during the downturn and can see the positive effect this is having on our customers.’

Maxine Knowles, human resources manager, added: ‘At a time when businesses are struggling to attract and hold on to good people, we are seeing high levels of engagement and retention and are still seen as the employer of choice in the UK. Making the Top 100 is great, but we are not complacent and are already working on leadership and wellbeing as two areas where the survey says we can do more to support our people.’
