Terex Finlay 863 spearheads new recycling process

Day Aggregates develop new HBM products with support from Finlay Plant South East

DAY Aggregates have taken delivery of a new Terex Finlay 863 screen designed to help the London-based recycling company develop a new recycling process which looks to benefit both construction and utility companies.

Supplied by Finlay Plant South East – part of the Finlay Group of companies – the machine has been delivered to Day Aggregates’ Murphy’s Wharf recycling depot in Charlton – one of the UK’s largest recycling centres.

The 863 has been introduced to develop a new process involving the handling of clay-bound waste. This waste is being processed through a mixing plant to produce hydraulically bound mixtures (HBM).

These HBM products are sold by Day Aggregates under the EcoFILL brand name, giving contractors the opportunity to significantly reduce the cost of imported aggregates.

Adam Day of Day Aggregates said: ‘HBM uptake has the potential to significantly reduce UK landfill and the EcoFILL product range looks to achieve this through quality production, which starts with efficient screening delivered by the 863.

‘The incoming material is excavated soil and stone generated by utility companies working on water, power and telecoms, which is then being used as the base aggregate for the HBM process.’

Leon Sheehy, managing director of Finlay Plant South East, added: ‘We worked closely with Day Aggregate’s site manager to find out the company’s exact needs. After an evaluation process we were able to recommend a bespoke specification that was tailored to their requirements.’

The fully self-contained Terex Finlay 863 has been designed to offer compact proportions for sites where space is at a premium. It has the capacity to process up to 250 tonnes/h, fed by either a tracked mobile crusher or an excavator, and can be hydraulically folded and ready for transport in less than an hour. Another key feature is a screen box discharge end that can be hydraulically raised by 500mm to facilitate access.
