State-of-the-art monster
A Komatsu excavator weighing 83 tonnes has been bought by Thompsons of Prudhoe.
The £500,000 machine — the first of its type to be owner-operated in the region — will be used for the demolition of buildings and foundations made primarily of concrete. A special attachment on the excavator pulverizes the concrete once demolition is complete and removes mass concrete from the foundations.
The Komatsu PC750KC-6 hydraulic excavator delivers 444hp at 1,800 rev/min and is fitted with a 7.1m boom and a 2.9m dipper arm. Thompsons’ unit also features demolition heavy-duty belly plates, side protection, cab guard, bucket-ram guard, rear-view camera and a 4m3 bucket.
John Thompson, director, said: ‘This is one of the most advanced machines of its type and is a useful addition to our fleet. Having the extra power means that we can knock down and process buildings even quicker.’
