Spot-On take delivery of new truck

Yorkshire-based Spot-On Concrete have taken delivery of a 6m3 MBP (mobile batch plant) from volumetric concrete mixer manufacturers Mek-Tek. The MBP6, which offers powerful auger torque, features a new high-efficiency screw design that allows it to discharge rapidly, even at higher delivery angles. This significantly improves productivity for operators as they can batch concrete into larger vehicles and smaller dumptrucks.

Spot-On’s Mario Cerchione said the new tuck is currently being used for most of the firm’s concrete deliveries for screeding and foundation projects. ‘It is so successful that many of our customers, including Jewson, Travis Perkins and Cemex UK, now ask for it specially due to the better quality concrete mix produced and the higher angle of delivery,’ he explained. ‘Our work is extremely varied but the core of the business includes large quantities of screed as well as dry and semi-dry mix, which the Mek-Tek truck handles with ease.’

As most of Spot-On’s 30m3/day output is supplied for screeding, the MBP6 is equipped with a fibre feeder to reinforce the concrete mix. With a 19kg capacity, this optional unit is used to add a continuous stream of fibre to the water, cement and aggregate mix, at quantities between 0.6kg and 0.9kg of material per m3 of concrete. Feed speed and material cut-length are adjustable to ensure optimum fibre distribution within the mix. This also avoids the clumping and baling that is often a problem when soluble bags are used to add fibre to traditional drum mixers.

Mr Cerchione believes the MBP6 is one of the easiest and quickest volumetric trucks to maintain thanks to its self-lubricating auger, hydraulic system and self-adjusting belt scraper and blade. ‘I would estimate that the Mek-Tek truck reduces the time taken for routine maintenance by as much as 50%,’ he said.
