Sound-level meter with built-in hearing protection data
Castle Group have a developed a sound-level meter that can show how much hearing protection is needed and recommends a suitable protection device as a result. This removes any erroneous and time-consuming calculations for the safety officer during risk assessment, by providing a fast, accurate analysis of attenuation data.
With real-time octave-band analysis, twin measurement channels, data logging and 32Mb of memory, the Castle Pro-DX Vocis sound meter can capture all the data required for a noise at work risk assessment in a single measurement.
The hearing protection data can then either be downloaded to a PC via Castle’s dBdataPro software, or directly printed out from a portable printer. One of the recipients of the Castle Pro-DX Vocis is Dudley Council, who have been impressed by the meter’s ease of use and its tough, weather- and dust-proof design.
Neil Causer, building services manager for the local authority, commented: ‘We currently use one specific type of hearing protection, and the sound level meter can tell us immediately whether it is suitable in a particular area, which is extremely useful.
‘The meter is also easy to use, with simple and straightforward menus and, in conjunction with the PC software, it allows us to keep permanent records and build the council’s database of risk assessments.’
