Solid level solutions from Endress+Hauser
Accurate and reliable level measurement is critical to optimizing plant performance and efficiency. Endress+Hauser, specialists in the provision of measurement instrumentation, services and solutions for industrial process engineering, offer a range of methods for continuous level measurement specially designed for solids applications, including guided radar, ultrasonics and non-contact radar, to ensure that clients get the ‘best fit’ system for their applications.
Suitable for use in silos and storage tanks, Levelflex M guided radar provides reliable level measurement of bulk solids, even during pneumatic filling when thick dust clouds can occur. Working on micro-impulse technology, it is independent of air disturbance and changes in product properties, such as humidity, density and dielectric constants, and its high sensitivity means it can be used in the measurement of fine-grained solids such as powders and granules.
Where measurement using sensors in contact with the product is not possible due to wear, damage and cost implications, Endress+Hauser’s non-contact Prosonic S ultrasonic transmitter offers a solution. It can be mounted in a safe position well above a hopper or silo and with its signal conditioning is capable of measuring any surface, as well as coping with noise and dust generation. The sensor can also play an integral part in the level control of a material transfer conveyor or grading and screening plant. The device is simple to operate via its menu-guided plain text display, while the free time-of-flight (ToF Tool) operating software provides reliable commissioning, maintenance and documentation of the measuring point.
In bulk solids applications where extreme noise and dust are prevalent (eg crushers), non-contacts methods, such as the Micropilot M FMR250, generally provide the best results. Maintenance-free Micropilot radar devices are unaffected by pressure, temperature, gas layers or condensation and offer high-accuracy measurement. Capable of measuring up to 70m, the Micropilot M is also well suited to high silos containing dusty or abrasive solids.
