Simon Vivian becomes new MPA chairman
Breedon Aggregates group chief executive succeeds Bill Brett as chairman of Mineral Products Association
SIMON Vivian, current group chief executive officer of Breedon Aggregates Ltd, has been appointed as chairman of the Mineral Products Association (MPA) for the next two years, with effect from today (1 September). He succeeds Bill Brett, of the Brett Group, and of the MPA’s five chairmen to date, is the third to serve from an independent company.
Paying tribute to Mr Brett’s contribution to the association over the last two years, Nigel Jackson, chief executive of the MPA, said: ‘Bill, like his predecessors, has invested a huge amount of time and passion into maintaining the unity of the association for the good of all members, irrespective of size or the nature of their businesses.
‘His personal commitment to improving the sector’s health and safety record has been obvious to all and has inspired members to do better. He has helped the association navigate through a number of significant challenges it has faced as we transitioned from recession to recovery and he can look back with pride knowing he has made a positive and lasting impact.’
Mr Jackson continued: ‘We are delighted that Simon (pictured) has agreed to pick up the baton from Bill. His wide industry knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the association as we look to set the agenda for the industry for the next 10 years and respond to the challenges ahead.’
Separately, it was announced last week that Mr Vivian is to step down as group chief executive officer of Breedon Aggregates and will move to a non-executive role within the company. He will be succeeded by Pat Ward, current chief executive officer of Aggregate Industries Europe, who is expected to join Breedon early next year.
