Shorts Demolition make it a Volvo machine double
Demolition contractors staying loyal to Volvo brand with the purchase of two new E-Series excavators
SHORTS Group are no strangers to operating Volvo equipment having been associated with the Swedish manufacturer’s compact excavators across their plant and tool hire fleet over many years.
The arrival of a reduced-swing 25-tonne ECR235E excavator and larger 30-tonne EC300E unit equipped specifically for secondary demolition duties, and the recent appointment of Colin Prendergast as demolition manager, coincides with the Group’s strategy to add more emphasis to its activities within the demolition sector.
‘The larger Volvo excavators rigged for demolition duties have a good track record and reputation within the industry and, as we were looking to replace a machine and add an additional unit to the fleet, we decided to opt for these two models, commented Mr Prendergast.
Both machines feature Stage IV Final-compliant engines: the ECR235E boasts a six-litre unit delivering 128hp; and the EC300E features an eight-litre engine developing 240hp. The compact excavators have been specified for secondary demolition duties and are equipped in standard backacter configuration.
They feature heavy-duty belly plates, side-impact guarding, Fogs guarding to the cab and guarding to the bucket cylinder. Both compact models have also been supplied with twin-lock quick-hitches, full guarding around the superstructures and additional proportional hydraulic circuits to facilitate grab rotation for a whole array of demolition attachments, including shears, grapples and pulverizers.
The Volvo Care Cab on both excavators offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all-round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent climate control system. An adjustable easy-to-read LCD colour monitor provides real-time information on the machine functions, key diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear-view camera.
