Ship-loader cabin for Glensanda
Wright Engineering have supplied a ship-loader operating cabin for harbour operations at Foster Yeoman’s Glensanda Quarry, near Oban.
Glensanda is connected to the sea by a 200m deep channel and provides a sheltered berth 24h a day for vessels with a draught of up to 14m. Reclaim, blending and ship-loading facilities are rated at 6,000 tonnes/h throughout, which means that a typical 86,000-tonne cargo can be loaded in under 24h.
Wright replaced the existing operator’s cabin with a custom-designed, double-skinned and insulated cabin mounted on an existing tubular column. A galvanized support frame and hand railing provide the infrastructure for the 3.5m long, 2.0m wide and 2.5m high cabin.
Painted to marine specification, the cabin features double-glazed windows throughout. The upper windows are tinted, while the lower windows are crash protected. Inside, the operator has a tip-up observation seat, windscreen wipers and washers, an air-conditioning system (for cooling and heating), and a Hepa filtration system.
A Gessman KST4 control chair with integrated joystick controls give the operator full control of the slew and feed rate of the conveyor extension that provides direct feed into the ship hold. A bezel-mounted tracker ball in the arm provides screen control on a 19in TFT screen that has a direct interface with the main quarry computer system. Communication with vessels and the quarry plant is via VHF and UHF radios.
