Cemex cement plant in Colombia becomes first to achieve water self-sufficiency in the region

COLOMBIA’s Santa Rosa cement plant has become the first Cemex facility in the company’s South, Central America and Caribbean (SCAC) region to attain water self-sufficiency.

The plant independently meets its water requirements using a 9,000m3 reservoir that is constantly replenished by rainwater, runoff, and water circulation devices.

Cemex say the move aligns with their Water Management Roadmap, a critical facet within the company’s Future in Action programme. The achievement takes Cemex closer to their 2030 target of reducing freshwater consumption in cement operations by 20%.
