Second-generation horizontal silos
GLOUCESTERSHIRE-based Mek-Tek Construction have introduced a second-generation range of horizontal silos based on a mobile low-level design that overcomes the planning issues and other constraints normally associated with conventional, fixed, tower-type storage vessels. Electric and hydraulic models, both of which meet EPA and health and safety legislation, are available to provide an economical solution for quarry operators and contractors requiring a temporary or permanent bulk storage facility.
The new SH50H, described by Mek-Tek as ‘a truly independent mobile silo’, is equipped with a 4.5-litre John Deere donkey engine with built-in compressor, allowing it to be sited in built-up areas or rural locations and operational within hours without the need for a 3-phase electrical supply.
The standard SH50 (50m³) electric model, which is fully operational when connected to a 3-phase electrical supply, features a fully enclosed cabinet housing a 1.5kW heavy-duty compressor with 100-litre receiver and mechanical auto drain.
Standard equipment on both models includes overload and overfill protection, a 24m² RAJ dust-filtration unit, a relief valve to protect against silo vacuum and/or overpressure, stock control level indicators, and a manual aeration system to allow flexible operation with a variety of materials. A number of discharge screw options are also available to suit customers’ specific applications.
Introducing the new range, Mek-Tek Construction’s managing director, Mark Osborne, said: ‘These silos allow large and small companies to save money by buying powders in bulk, while avoiding the ‘red tape’ associated with the installation of traditional tower silos.’
