Scottish fleet switches to Iveco

Argyll-based Bonnar Sand & Gravel Co. have recently taken delivery of an Iveco Trakker AD340T35, fitted with a modified demountable body, built by D&B Bodyworks, which allows the vehicle to operate as both a tipper and a mixer.

The Trakker features McPhee mixing equipment, an automated 12-speed EuroTronic gearbox, rear air-suspension and an all-steel bumper, consisting of three sections, which helps to minimize replacement costs if damaged.

As part of the vehicle specification, the bottom section of the bumper has been rounded off to follow the front approach angle so when the truck is moving the step used by the driver to clean the windscreen retracts into it.

Also, the bottom step mounting is flexible and hingeless, which means in the event of a collision it simply bends and returns to its original position. For added protection, a removable grille shields the headlamps.

Power is provided by an Iveco 7.8-litre Cursor 8 engine, which produces 350hp between 1,930 rev/min and 2,400 rev/min, and up to 1,280Nm of torque between 1,080 rev/min and 1,950 rev/min. The truck benefits from a cab width of 2.28m, helping to provide excellent manoeuvrability in confined spaces.

Bonnar Sand & Gravel Co’s fleet will be steadily replaced with Iveco models in the coming years, as managing director Danny Bonnar explained: ‘We don’t mix our fleet and like to stick with one manufacturer. We switched to Iveco after assessing all of the major manufacturers and we found the Trakker to be modern and ideally suited to our operation.’
