Rubble Master enhancing plant performance with VACON AC drives

VACON 100 X ac drive

Danfoss Drives and Rubble Master collaborate to meet demands and needs of mobile recycling market

RUBBLE MASTER, specialists in compact crushing technology, say they are continuing to develop and supply high-performance and versatile mobile crushers, thanks to an innovative and reliable driveline solution for their new RM V550GO! machine.

The popular VACON 100 X range of AC drives from Danfoss Drives have been chosen by the crushing equipment manufacturer to power up their compact machines in virtually all industrial applications, including waste-recycling and materials processing.

Until recently, Rubble Master had been using a custom-made drive solution (up to 11 kW) to control the motors of the vibrating conveyor utilized in their crushers. With their new-generation crusher designs, however, the company needed a 15kW drive that would be capable of withstanding demanding environments.

Gerald Hanisch, chief executive officer of Rubble Master, explained the company’s preferred choice of VACON 100 X decentralized drives for their latest mobile equipment.

‘As our mobile crushers are used around the world, we needed a robust drive which endures a wide range of operating temperatures and is able to withstand dust, moisture, humidity and vibrations,’ he commented. ‘Additionally, the drive must tolerate high altitudes.’

The equipment manufacturer says the VACON 100 X unit has proven to be an effective choice for their new RM V550GO!, providing all the necessary features it needs from a single standard drive. The decentralized solution controls two unbalanced motors in parallel which, in turn, run a vibrating conveyor that transports C&D waste material to the crushing section.

The VACON 100 X is based on the concept of decentralized drives; products that can be mounted directly on either the motor or machine, or wherever the most convenient location for the drive is.

According to Danfoss Drives, significant savings can be achieved in cabling costs, space and energy when the installation does not require the drives to be mounted in a separate electrical room or enclosure. In addition, a die-cast metal enclosure provides the best protection available for the VACON 100 X, while a breathable Gore vent protects the sealings.

Rubble Master have been so impressed with the VACON AC drives that they are planning to use the solutions to control other parts of their compact machinery. Mr Hanisch said: ‘We have received all the service and support we needed during our testing and piloting phase, and we are very happy and satisfied with the solution.’
