Reducing overspills and improving health and safety
A product overspill, whether liquid or solid, can be a potential hazard but if it is a particularly aggressive product, such as hot bitumen or acid, the consequences could be fatal. For these types of applications an independent high-level safety alarm is essential at the top of the tank.
Health and safety objectives are continually evolving, improving site safety with the introduction of new guidelines such as regular instrument tests and a reduction in the requirement to have to climb on top of tanks and silos. Instrumentation that is normally mounted at the top of tanks, therefore, has had to be improved in order to conform to new safety standards. Testing of high-level alarms from ground level is an essential requirement of switches on this type of application.
Hycontrol’s high-level switches have the facility to be connected to a test switch and can be panel mounted at the bottom of the tank or silo, allowing high-level alarms to be tested without the need to climb on top of a silo to carry out a physical test of the switch.
This test facility is offered as a standard option on Hycontrol’s range of capacitive, RF admittance and vibrating level switches. Before each tanker delivery starts the ground-level test button (GLT) is pressed on the control panel, activating the relevant alarms to check that they are functioning correctly. Any problems will be highlighted before the tanker driver begins to discharge the load so they can be addressed accordingly.
Hycontrol supply a complete range of level indicators, alarm and test panel solutions for single- and multi-point applications. A push button can, however, be retrofitted to an existing panel to facilitate the ground-level test feature if required.
