Recycling Lives take UK’s first electric skiploaders

Renault E-Tech D18 Wide skip truck

Waste-recycling specialist invests in two 100% electric Renault E-Tech D18 Wide skip trucks

WASTE-recycling specialist Recycling Lives have begun their zero tailpipe emissions skips services by taking delivery of the first two fully electric skip transporter trucks in the UK. Developed by Renault Trucks, the brand-new E-Tech D18 Wides, based at Recycling Lives’ waste-management facility in Preston, will help the company commence their decarbonization journey and help eliminate the tailpipe emissions associated with diesel models.

The Renault E-Tech D Wides have the capacity to complete a full day’s work on a single charge with zero tailpipe emissions and low traffic noise. These environmental features mean that the trucks are well suited to cities ambitious to tackle carbon emissions, poor air quality, and noise pollution.

Powered by 265kWh batteries, each skip truck is equipped with a 22kW on-board AC charger for fast DC charging up to 150kW, allowing the vehicle to extend its daily operational range. The E-Tech D18 Wide trucks come with Renault Trucks’ battery performance promise that guarantees battery operation for up to seven years.

Gerry Marshall, CEO of Recycling Lives, commented: ‘This transition to electric skip trucks is just another example of our commitment to environmental innovation. As part of our decarbonization strategy, we are looking to further reduce our carbon footprint by using more sustainable fuel solutions. This could include, for example, green hydrogen which is part of our energy-from-waste project. Moving towards zero-carbon transport solutions is a huge business priority, so we’re looking forward to getting these UK first electric skip trucks on the road.’

Andrew Scott, head of electric mobility at Renault Trucks, added: ‘It has been great to find a proactive partner in Recycling Lives willing to bring electric vehicles into service in such a familiar but demanding environment.’
