Renold Gears have supplied a drive unit to a company using a 1,100m long conveyor system to move aggregate from their quarry to a port at a rate of 350 tonnes/h, where it is loaded on to ships for export.
The company required a unit that could operate 24h a day, seven days a week, in an environment exposed to dust, grit and extreme weather conditions. Renold Gears designed a solution incorporating a PM-series helical/bevel/helical gear unit driven by a 55kW AC motor through a Renold Hydrastart soft-start fluid coupling. A Renold Pinflex coupling is fitted to the output shaft of the drive to provide the connection to the head shaft of the conveyor.
