Plote Inc. choose Extec
Plote Construction Inc., one of the US's leading general contractors specializing in mass excavation, site development, utility installation and roadway construction, operate a number of high-production asphalt manufacturing sites on the outskirts of Chicago, Illinois, delivering thousands of tons of aggregate and asphalt mixes to road and highway construction projects on a daily basis.
In order to assist in the efficient processing of reclaimed asphalt planings, in 2004 Plote purchased a high-output S-5 Doublescreen unit from Extec Screens & Crushers. A key feature of the S-5 unit is its doublescreen box, which separates the asphalt into fine-grained and oversize material. The oversize can be fed, via the tail conveyor, to a crusher for further processing while the finer material is discharged by the side conveyor.
The S-5's doublescreen box design was a major influence in the decision-making process, as David Zumbrunn, project manager for Plote lnc., explained: 'The key factors were the high quality and massive production rate of Extec's S-5 doublescreen box assembly. The split drive inter-angling doublescreen system has been purpose-built to handle particularly difficult materials, allowing the first screen box to be used as a fines extractor while the second box operates as a grader.'
Ultimately, however, it was the speed of set-up, the high-output production capabilities and the cleverly designed transport bogie that confirmed the company's purchasing decision, as the screener has to get to and from a number of Plote's sites quickly and easily.
'When it comes to set-up times and the transport bogie system, the qualities of the S-5 really come to thefore,' said Mr Zumbrunn. 'The design features of the S-5's bogie allow the machine to be transported as a trailer, without the use of a low-loader, and as the bogie system is hydraulic it can be easily removed on site to allow quick setup for screening.'
According to Plote, the Extec S-5 Doublescreen has fulfilled all their expectations regarding mobility, flexibility, environmental compatibility and after-sales support.
