Obituary: J. Stewart McGregor
Scottish branch marks the passing of long-serving member and former chairman
THE Scottish branch is sad to report that Stewart McGregor passed away peacefully on Boxing Day at the age of 91. Following the war Stewart started work at Creetown Quarry helping his father who was the quarry manager; this was only to be for a few months, as Mr McGregor senior was not in good health at the time. Stewart never left the Scottish Granite Company – he became quarry manager then managing director and retired following the company’s takeover by Tarmac.
Stewart was the Scottish branch chairman from 1968–69 and was delighted to be awarded the IQ Long Service Medal some years ago. Golf was his lifelong passion, and hill walking and holidaying on the west coast of Scotland filled his retirement years, which were long and happy.
