New VT Side Alert system from Vision Techniques
Latest vehicle warning system designed to prevent collisions with road users and improve worker safety
VISION Techniques, specialist suppliers of mobile CCTV and vehicle reversing safety aids, have launched the new VT Side Alert warning system. The innovative device has been developed in response to the increased need for quarry vehicles to make deliveries to construction projects in urban areas.
The new £15 billion Crossrail project, for example, implements a strict policy that delivery contractors have such devices fitted on their vehicles. According to Crossrail Ltd, all working vehicles must be fitted with blind-spot proximity sensors, side under-run guards and warning alerts.
The VT Side Alert is activated when the driver engages the left-hand indicator switch.
As a vehicle turns left, the VT Side Alert sensors will detect obstacles alongside it and emit an audible warning to alert the driver, as well as triggering a speaking alarm to workers and pedestrians.
In addition to the audible alarms, the new side alert system includes an optional LED lightboard that can be fitted on the side of the vehicle, close to the cab or positioned at a convenient height in order to get the attention of workers/pedestrians.
Nigel Armstrong of Vision Techniques commented: ‘When quarry vehicles need to make deliveries in urban areas, the VT Side Alert system is proven to prevent collisions, providing protection for workers, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users while giving peace of mind to vehicle operatives.’
