New Volvo truck proves a success
777 Demolition & Haulage have taken delivery of a new Volvo FH16, which will be used to transport a telescopic excavator.
This is the first time 777 have selected a Volvo truck. The FH16 was chosen because it provided superior torque combined with the back-up service provided by Volvo’s local dealers in Croydon.
The truck’s cab is a Globetrotter XL in ‘prestige’ trim and is equipped with a microwave, fridge, coffee-maker, phone kit and Volvo office pack. Externally, it features roof and rear beacons, working lights and specially supplied chequer plate mudguards.
The excavator it transports is the only one of its type in the world; a Hitachi telescopic unit with a 50m reach and equipped with a pulverizer that is used to break concrete. It is transported on a 120-tonne-rated, five-axle, all-steer trailer with a twin-axle jeep dolly at the front giving a total of 10 axles on the ground. The trailer is coupled via a Jost JSK 38 G1 fifth wheel that both slides and oscillates for use on rough terrain.
