New Volvo machines for H & H Waste Management
Recycling firm strengthens mobile plant fleet with L180H loading shovel and EW240E materials-handler
H & H Waste Management have taken delivery of a new Volvo L180H wheel loader and EW240E materials-handler for use at their recently acquired waste-handling facility in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
Both machines are being used to handle a range of materials, including construction and demolition (C&D) waste. The 28-tonne L180H has been fitted with a heavy-duty 4.8 cubic metre-capacity high-tip bucket (supplied by Ulrich Attachments), together with 26.5R25 solid wheel and tyre assemblies to counter general wear working on a concrete pad.
The loading shovel is powered by a 13-litre Stage IV Final engine that develops 333hp between 1,300 and 1,400 rev/min. The machine also benefits from Volvo-designed and manufactured driveline components, including Optishift with torque converter lock-up and reverse by braking feature – all designed to offer considerable fuel savings on each shift.
Fuel savings are further enhanced by the Volvo Eco pedal, which encourages the operator to run the machine at its optimum rev/min in the engine’s torque curve while its speed has been restricted to a maximum of 20 miles/h.
Powered by a six-cylinder Volvo engine developing 171hp, the EW240E materials-handler offers the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example, pump flow is controlled for combined equipment and slewing operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, while maintaining lift capacity and maximum swing torque. In addition, when Eco-mode is selected, the machine offers better fuel economy without loss of performance in most operating conditions.
The EW240E has been supplied with a 6.5m straight boom and 4m sorting arm with a Dehaco selector grab. The materials-handler provides a maximum forward reach of 10m, a maximum height of 12m at the attachment pin and a 3.7-tonne lifting capacity at maximum reach across carriage with its outriggers down.
In addition to the machine’s standard hammer/shear lines, a X3 rotation circuit is available to facilitate the use of a rotating selector grab.
Inside, the Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space for the operator, with excellent all-round visibility enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent climate-control system. An adjustable, easy-to-read LCD colour monitor provides real-time information on the machine functions.
The EW240E unit offers the operator the benefit of maximum visibility around the work area, thanks to the hydraulically raised and lowered cab that has a maximum elevation of 5.7m.
