New Volvo L150G wheel loader for Cheshire quarry operator
Volvo CE customer satisfaction prompts repeat business from Bathgate Silica Sand
BATHGATE Silica Sand have taken delivery of a new Volvo L150G wheel loader which continues a trend at the company, as the new machine replaces an L180C that had clocked up 22,000h and joins two L220 models engaged in primary extraction at Bathgate’s sand quarry.
According to general manager Dave Robinson, operator preference and a sound track record for first-class aftermarket support were the main drivers in choosing the latest Volvo loading shovel. ‘There’s no doubt my operators favour the Volvo products, especially now with the enhancements to the cab of the G Series machine in terms of added comfort and increased visibility,’ he said. ‘Once again we’ve decided to invest in a Volvo service agreement for the new L150G for complete peace of mind.’
Featuring a 13-litre Stage IIIB-compliant 300hp engine, Optishift transmission and axles all designed and manufactured by Volvo, the new wheel loader has a full turn tipping load of 17.2 tonnes, a 20% increase in lifting force and 10% increase in breakout force over its predecessor.
Two stronger, variable displacement load-bearing axial piston pumps and hoses have been introduced to handle the increased pressures. These provide superior control of the load and attachments, as well as high breakout force, faster lifting and tilt functions.
A new hydraulic cooling system has also been designed to reduce the working temperatures by up to 20degrees Celsius over the F series model. Fuel savings are further enhanced by the Volvo Eco pedal that encourages the operator to run the machine at its optimum rev/min in the engine’s torque curve.
The L150G loader will re-handle incoming soils and sands for blending, feed a trommel screen and dryer, as well as load lorries with finished products amounting up to a potential 30,000 tonnes per annum. The machine has been fitted with a standard 4.4 cubic metre straight-lipped bucket and an RDS Loadmaster weighing system.
‘Downsizing to the L150G will help the operation because the area to work in is quite tight and the loader offers a better degree of manoeuvrability over its predecessor,’ explained Mr Robinson. ‘It’s still large enough to cover for one of the L220ss when routine service or repairs are necessary, so it’s a good compromise.'
