New Volvo FH truck for Alan Price & Sons
Mid-Glamorgan recycling operator strengthens vehicle fleet with new FH-540 tractor unit
ALAN Price & Sons, specialists in waste recycling and bulk haulage, have purchased a new Volvo FH-540 truck which features unique artwork celebrating the life of the company’s founder, the late Alan Price.
Supplied by Pontypridd-based Truck and Bus Wales & West, the 6x2 tag-axle tractor unit is the first new Volvo to join the company’s 18-strong fleet for more than five years, as Alan Price & Sons have previously purchased used Volvo FH and FM trucks in that time. The new truck will work primarily in bulk waste transportation up and down the M4 ‘corridor’ and is coupled with a BMI ejector trailer equipped with a donkey engine.
Ray Price, son of Alan Price, commissioned the special artwork in honour of his father who was originally a farmer in the Deri area of South Wales. Mr Price is also celebrating his ‘half-century’ with the family-owned company. The artwork on the Globetrotter cab of the new FH unit depicts business founder Alan Price with a herd of red deer, a species made famous as the subject of Victorian artist Sir Edwin Landseer’s ‘Monarch of the Glen’ painting.
Commenting on the recent Volvo FH purchase, Mr Price said: ‘We’ve been in waste haulage since 1996 and recycling for the last five years. We find that a Volvo is the best truck for our operation as they are very reliable and their longevity is very good. We went for the tag-axle as they are lighter and better than the double-drive on fuel. It is the relationship we have with the dealer that clinched the deal. Truck and Bus Wales & West couldn’t be more helpful, as they ticked all the boxes and went that extra mile to help us.’
