New Tread from OTR
"OTR Tyres have launched a new retread tyre designed for the harsh quarry environment. The NewTread tyre utilizes a preformed tread made of synthetic compound, which is then vulcanized on to a prepared casing."
"The manufacturing process of the NewTread is different to OTR’s normal retreading process, with curing taking place in a water autoclave at only 95o. The tread and casing have an inner and outer rubber envelope vacuumed on to them which forms a tight seal and provides the pressure to secure the tread on to the casing while vulcanization takes place. The lower curing temperature results in greater casing reliability while also reducing processing costs. The use of synthetic compounds gives the retreads the same advantages as a new tyre but at a lower cost."
Extensive testing of the tyres in some of the UK’s harshest environments has shown a 30% saving in running costs. Initial production will be on a strict casing exchange basis and will be in the two most popular sizes — 2700R49 and 2400R35.
