New range of metal-faced seals from Pioneer Weston

A new range of metal-faced seals from Pioneer Weston draws on their 60+ years’ experience designing, developing and manufacturing mechanical rotary seals. The addition of expert O-ring elastomeric materials and design technology from parent company ERIKS has allowed the designers at the new dedicated UK sealing technology centre to develop a full range of seals for tough rotary applications that offer premium quality, precision and reliability at a competitive price.

Designed to be used both as a replacement item and as an OE fitment part, the new range of Pioneer Weston metal-faced seals is suitable for applications such as wheel hubs and axles on off-road vehicles, tracked vehicles, quarrying and mining machinery and heavy-duty waste processing equipment. From the outset, the new seal range offers a broad mix of standard sizes and dimensions to fit the widest range of applications; pairs of seals from 38mm ID to a huge 1.5m ID are already available with further special variations being added continuously as new applications are identified.

Lee Murray, technical manager at Pioneer Weston, commented: ‘Our move into supplying metal-faced seals is a case of satisfying a niche market with the best available technology; our design, engineering and metals knowledge is unsurpassed when it comes to mechanical seals, the fit, corrosion resistance and extremely precise machining of the mating faces of each pair of seals is vital to the reliable operation of the vehicle or machine they are fitted to. The addition of a range of custom-developed Elastomer seals from Europe’s market leader ERIKS just completes the package; allowing us to tailor each seal combination to the exact - ideal specification for each application, be it a frequently used tracked vehicle on a farm or construction site, or a vibratory screen in a quarry environment.’

Metal faced seals offer bearing protection and lubricant retention on any relatively slow moving rotary shaft, predominantly found in tracked vehicles such as earthmovers, mobile cranes and large off-highway vehicles. The new range from Pioneer Weston was designed at the new dedicated UK sealing technology centre in Warrington, and assembled in the UK. Products from this range can be adapted and re-engineered to match virtually any custom application. Sales and technical support is available globally via the international ERIKS maintenance support network and via other leading international distributors and technical partners.
