New FMX and FMX Tridem break cover at Tip-ex
Volvo Trucks showcase three new trucks from their completely revised tipper range
A RIGHT-hand drive FMX 8x4 and an FMX Tridem were in the spotlight on the Volvo Trucks stand at the Tip-ex show in Harrogate last week.
The new UK specification FMX 8x4 with X-High B-ride rear suspension is equipped with Volvo’s I-Shift automated transmission and I-See software that uses GPS to ‘learn’ up to 5,000km of topography and save fuel.
At Tip-ex, this truck was fitted with a Boweld TaperLite body – a specification that is now available to order under a Volvo Trucks scheme designed to reduce bodybuilder lead times.
The FMX 8x4 specification also includes a Volvo Euro6-compliant 13-litre engine rated at 420hp. Designated the D13K420, the six-cylinder power plant develops 2,100Nm of torque from 860 to 1,400 rev/min, with Euro 6 emissions compliance achieved using SCR and EGR technology.
The bodywork of the FMX 8x4 on show at Tip-ex was fitted with a Boweld ProCover sheeting system, Hyva FC137 tipping gear and Vishay PM Onboard’s 1300 ‘BulkWeigh’ on-board weighing system.
The new 32-tonne gross vehicle weight FMX Tridem 8x4 was also shown on the Volvo Trucks stand. Featuring the X-High chassis designed for off-road applications, this truck was equipped with Volvo’s new rear air-suspension system and a sleeper cab fitted with the Drive + package and Dynafleet telematics.
The FMX Tridem’s power is delivered by a Volvo Euro6-compliant 13-litre D13K engine rated at 540hp driving through a 12-speed I-Shift gearbox, with engine retardation provided by Volvo’s VEB+ engine brake.
The third vehicle on the Volvo Trucks stand was a new FH-460 6x2 Globetrotter-cabbed tractor unit belonging to Yorkshire tipper operators Alfred Hymas Ltd. The specification on this truck included a Euro5 D13C 13-litre engine rated at 460hp, together with I-Shift transmission with Long-Haul software, Dynafleet telematics and Drive + cab trim.
