New driver ID system
Relying on humans to ensure that only authorized personnel operate machinery and vehicles is an extremely difficult task. It is even more important to have full traceability and accountability in the event of accidents or plant damage in quarries.
In response to the growing problems of plant monitoring and control in the industry, Clever Cloks Products Ltd have developed a new health and safety device – Clever D-ID – which comprises an electronic immobilizer activated by a programmable keyfob given to each driver.
The control and recording unit is a coin-sized tag reader that is activated when an operator’s keyfob touches the reader. Drivers’ fobs are programmed to their training profile so they can only work on plant that they are qualified to operate. If an employee is approved, the Clever D-ID allows the machine to start and records the date/time of usage and driver’s details.
This information can be downloaded on to a PC for printed reports through software supplied by Clever Cloks Products. A plant service record can also be shown and automatic alerts can be quickly set up to inform quarry operators when a machine requires maintenance and servicing.
The system requires no servicing and replacement of batteries and keyfobs. Around 50 units have already been installed for Lafarge at their Mountsorrel and Dowlow quarries.
