New ATEX-compliant explosion panel
Explosion panel manufacturers Elfab have launched Lift-Gard, a new flat-venting system designed to help users and manufacturers of bucket elevators comply with the Explosive Atmosphere (ATEX) Directive.
Explosions in bucket elevators are commonly caused by the transportation of bulk materials, which can lead to substantial damage, injury and even loss of life. The ATEX Directive places tight regulatory control on suppliers and users of bucket elevators and protection equipment, setting out essential health and safety guidelines for products where there is a risk of explosion.
Lift-Gard contains both an integral frame and a detection device — Elfab’s Flo-Tel — in one system. Should the latter detect an initial explosion inside the elevator shaft, it will automatically turn off the elevator motor, reducing both the risk of a further explosion and the threat of the elevator operating with used explosion vents.
This is a key requirement of the latest regulatory developments. Suitable for a range of temperatures and available in a range of sizes and burst pressures, the Lift-Gard explosion panel is made from stainless steel and is easy-to-install, requiring just six bolts to secure its outlet frame directly on to the elevator, without the need for additional frames or any welding.
