New aid for quarry maintenance
Due to the varied and changing terrain of UK quarries, traditional maintenance methods are not always feasible. Leaking pipes or plate bonding repairs, for example, can be difficult to carry out because of uncertain climatic conditions and the requirement for extensive surface preparation.
As a result, engineers have had to learn to develop their own unique fix for issues such as oil leaks using an array of equipment and materials, but never before has a truly cost-effective and reliable solution for the problem existed.
Belzona Polymerics Ltd, however, have developed Belzona 1831 (super UW Metal), a highly adhesive two component polymer repair composite that can be used for cold bonding and the sealing of leaks in containment areas, pipes and other equipment operating in oily, damp environments.
Gordon Cairns, UK sales manager for Belzona, commented: ‘The repair kit was initially developed to combat the problems encountered within ageing power transmission systems.
‘But we are now raising awareness of Belzona 1831 in the quarrying industry, as a cost-effective solution to the repair of oil leaks. The product effectively displaces the oil from the surface enabling the repair to take place, with minimal production loss.
It has good chemical resistance and can be applied in situ, reducing downtime and costly replacement of parts.’
