Road surfacing specialist takes delivery of 56 new Kobelco excavators including premium SK130LC-11 model

M&J Evans, one of the UK’s leading groundworks and highways surfacing contractors, have completed a deal for 56 Kobelco excavators with UK dealers Molson Group. The Japanese-manufactured machines, known for their low fuel consumption, were pivotal in M&J's decision to invest in this fleet deal, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainability, fuel efficiency, productivity, and reliability across its operations.

Impressed by Kobelco’s blend of fuel-efficient engine technology and advanced hydraulic systems, Paul Allman, director of plant at M&J, remarked: ‘Integrating these new Kobelco excavators into our fleet is a testament to our ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency across all aspects of the business while minimizing environmental impact. The high fuel efficiency and reliability of Kobelco excavators will support our sustainability goals in delivering a high-quality and cost-effective service to our clients.’

This strategic investment introduces a range of popular Kobelco models, including the SK28SR-7, SK50SR-7, SK85MSR-7, and SK130LC-11, to the contractor’s extensive fleet. To ensure these machines meet the rigorous safety and quality standards set by M&J, the excavators have been equipped with Miller quick-couplers, a variety of Strickland buckets, and Trackunit vehicle-tracking systems.

The procurement of new plant equipment forms part of the civil engineering firm’s broader strategy to maintain a technologically advanced and environmentally friendly fleet. In 2022/23, M&J invested over £32 million in new construction equipment, highlighting the necessity of having state-of-the-art machinery with low-emission engines and high productivity.

‘While the Kobelco excavators provide the fuel savings we need, this does not compromise productivity or reliability,’ Mr. Allman added. ‘We anticipate that the excavators will be well received by our operators, as they are highly specified and will integrate seamlessly into our operations.’
