Suzie Doe appointed industry ambassador co-ordinator for Minerals Matter and The Mining Association of the UK

MINERALS Matter and The Mining Association of the UK (MAUK) have welcomed Suzie Doe as their new industry ambassador co-ordinator. With a strong foundation in education, STEM engagement, and science communication, Ms Doe brings deep expertise in forging meaningful connections between industry, academia, and the next generation of geo-resources professionals.

A qualified educator and passionate advocate for inclusive science outreach, Ms Doe has dedicated her career to aligning educational experiences with the evolving needs of the mining and minerals sector. Her appointment directly supports Minerals Matter’s mission to build stronger pathways into the industry through effective collaboration between schools, colleges, universities, and employers.

Ms Doe has collaborated directly with industry professionals to design and deliver outreach programmes that connect young people with real-world applications of geoscience and mining. These include geothermal energy workshops for more than 100 primary and secondary schools, the Cornwall Schools Mining Games for Year 8 students, and bespoke curriculum resources grounded in active mining and exploration projects.

In her previous role as digital lead for the Geo-Resources Cluster, Ms Doe facilitated initiatives that brought together industry leaders, career hubs, and educators to co-create impactful learning and communication tools. By challenging perceptions of the sector, she has promoted the industry as both inclusive and socially responsible – key messages in attracting future talent.

Her advisory work with organizations such as Women in Geothermal UK, the Royal Cornwall Museum, and local STEM networks further demonstrates her ability to facilitate cross-sector collaboration and promote a deeper public understanding of the role of minerals in society and sustainability.

‘I’m delighted to be joining Minerals Matter at such a pivotal time for the sector. It’s a fantastic opportunity to help shape the way young people engage with the mining, minerals and quarrying industry – from the classroom to career. I’m particularly excited about facilitating stronger links between industry and education, ensuring that students not only understand where minerals come from, but also see the exciting, impactful careers available in this vital sector,’ said Ms Doe.

Andrew Fulton, President of The Mining Association of the UK, which has helped fund Ms Doe’s appointment, said: ‘We are very pleased to put action to our support for the Minerals Matter programme, and through Suzie's appointment we have the opportunity now to fully mobilize Mining’s ambassadors.

‘As for the minerals sector, everything that is made starts or is made with the products we produce. Our industry is people, working to make the world both sustainable and a better place for all. Modernizing perceptions is key to attracting talent and sustaining the industry.’

As industry ambassador co-ordinator, Ms Doe will oversee and expand the Industry Ambassador Programme – a key initiative that facilitates professionals from across the sector in sharing their experiences and opportunities in schools, universities, and community events. By supporting ambassadors and strengthening partnerships with academic institutions, Ms Doe will help ensure that students and educators alike are exposed to the breadth of career opportunities, technological advancements, and environmental stewardship that define the modern mining industry.

Hannah Higley, future careers manager at Minerals Matter, added: ‘This appointment marks a strategic step in Minerals Matter’s commitment to bridging education and employment, connecting talent with opportunity, and securing the skills pipeline the UK’s mineral sector needs for the future.’
