London borough contract success for Riney

Riney contract signing

Company to deliver £110 million highways contract for the London Borough of Harrow

RINEY have started work on a contract with Harrow Council to deliver highway services in the north London borough for up to 10 years. The £110 million contract began on 1 April 2019.

The company, which was acquired by Tarmac in May 2017, will provide Harrow Council with a range of services, including routine and emergency maintenance works, highway and infrastructure improvements, resurfacing and street lighting, and winter gritting. Riney will operate from a dedicated depot within the London borough.

The initial contract – awarded following a competitive tender process – is for five years, with an option to extend the contract to a maximum of 10 years.

Chris Moore, Riney’s managing director, said: ‘We’re delighted to secure this contract, which further extends our presence in the capital, complementing and enhancing the breadth and quality of our offering, and further strengthening our position in the London maintenance market.

‘We’re looking forward to delivering a first-class service for Harrow and making a difference to the lives and well-being of all who live, work and learn in the borough, through our social values commitments under this contract.’

Councillor Varsha Parmar, Harrow Council’s portfolio holder for environment, commented: ‘This contract is all about high quality at a great price. Riney are an outstanding provider and this fantastic value-for-money contract will keep our highways at a great standard for years to come.’

This is the second recent London borough contract success for Riney, adding to their portfolio of ‘highway term’ contracts with London’s local authorities. Last year, Riney also won a contract with Bromley Council, worth £70 million, delivering major highway improvements, maintenance and street lighting to the borough.
