Living with Minerals 2

ANYONE who has not yet registered to attend the ‘Living with Minerals 2’ conference, which takes place next Monday (6 November) at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in central London, has only two days left in which to do so.

Organized by the CBI Minerals Group, in association with the Associate Parliamentary Minerals Group, this major event aims to recognize and promote the essential contribution the extractive industries make to the UK economy and way of life and how this can be sustained for the next generation. It will focus on: the constraints which inhibit access to minerals; security of supply for the long term; the increased demand created by the Olympics, London Gateway and the Growth Areas; and how the dialogue between the industry and environmental organizations can be improved to create a better mutual understanding.

The conference will be chaired by Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, chairman of Anglo American, and will hear from leading speakers including Sir John Sunderland, president of the CBI, and the Rt Hon. John Gummer MP.

Delegates attending the conference are expected to include senior managers from all sectors of the minerals industry, MPs and senior civil servants, government agencies, mineral planning authorities, NGOs and environmental groups, regional assemblies and development agencies, academics, consultants, county councillors, community liaison groups and customers.

Following the conference, the new UK National Minerals Forum will be launched by the Associate Parliamentary Minerals Group during a special reception at the House of Commons. The Forum aims to promote a better strategic debate about the future development of all UK mineral resources; a more effective interface between the industry and government; and more effective government sponsorship of the industry.
