Liebherr expand into plant hire in Great Britain
FOLLOWING the successful creation some 10 years ago of Liebherr-Mietpartner, a specialist in earthmoving and materials-handling equipment rental throughout continental Europe, Liebherr say plans are now at an advanced stage to establish a similar operation in Great Britain.
A separate company, Liebherr-Rental Ltd, is being set up, modelled on the ‘Mietpartner’ principles of working co-operatively with the equipment sales operations, offering existing and new customers an option for both short- and long-term hire of Liebherr equipment.
The new, fully autonomous company will be based in Liebherr’s British headquarters at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, and is scheduled to be operational throughout England, Scotland and Wales by the third quarter of 2007.
Liebherr are keen to emphasize that the hire operation will in no way conflict with their capital equipment sales activities, but instead will broaden the products and services already on offer to customers by providing the opportunity to operate specialist Liebherr equipment on a hire basis direct from the manufacturer.
An initial £7 million investment in rental equipment will create a varied hire fleet comprising 55 earthmoving, quarrying, demolition and materials-handling machines. Furthermore, Liebherr-Rental Ltd will also have access to a pool of over 3,000 additional machines through Liebherr-Mietpartner in continental Europe.
Initially the new hire fleet will operate out of the established Liebherr network at the Biggleswade headquarters and the major regional depots in Bathgate in West Lothian and Wigan in Lancashire.
Liebherr say the recruitment of experienced management and plant hire personnel is already well under way and the company’s existing team of field service engineers is also being increased nationally to provide routine maintenance and engineering support for the rental fleet.
