Largest ‘Rock Hawg’ in Europe

WESTQUAY Trading, the UK distributors of Tesmec products, are marking the arrival of the largest Tesmec ‘Rock Hawg’ machine in Europe – the 126-tonne TRS 1475 – with a live demonstration event at Lafarge’s Whitwell Quarry, near Worksop, Nottinghamshire, on Thursday 2 July.

The 600hp machine was recently purchased by Malvern-based A.J. Gammond Ltd to provide specialist plant hire trenching equipment for both large scale construction projects and the bulk excavation of level rock surfaces.

The Rock Hawg utilizes powerful ‘reverse cut’ technology to reduce solid rock into aggregate and sand, thereby eliminating the need for drilling, blasting, ripping, hydraulic hammers and primary crushing.

The size of the material produced is determined by the physical properties of the stone and the configuration of the digging drum.

With a trenching width of 3.8m and a trenching depth of 0.6m, the TRS 1475 is capable of extracting up to 300 cubic metres of limestone per hour. At Whitwell, the machine has already completed a large-scale haul road within the quarry.

Rock Hawg attachments are also available for Tesmec’s 50-tonne TRS 1150 tractor unit and 130-tonne TRS 1675 unit, which offer trenching widths from 2.55m up to 4.3m respectively.

Anyone interested in attending the live demonstration event should contact Westquay Trading on tel: (01925) 214105
