Lafarge Tarmac win top business award
Company scoops accolade for procurement and recycling expertise at Procurement Leaders Awards 2013
LAFARGE Tarmac’s leading approach to procurement and sustainability has been recognized after the company scooped the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the Procurement Leaders Awards 2013.
The prestigious national awards are one of the UK’s most high-profile and respected procurement events. It celebrates companies that are leading the way in procurement best practice. This year Lafarge Tarmac saw off strong competition from major organizations, such as BT, Sainsburys plc, Tata Steel and Vodafone, to claim the influential award.
The win recognized the company’s work to increase industry uptake of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP), which has helped the quarry operator divert 350,000 tonnes of waste from landfill, save 3,000 tonnes of carbon and significantly reduce its reliance on oil-based materials.
Following an investment of £3.5 million in asphalt recycling technology in 2012, Lafarge Tarmac’s strategy has been delivered by their Asphalt, Aggregates and Contracting businesses with the support and guidance of the company’s Procurement and Sustainability teams.
Tony Roberts, Lafarge Tarmac’s director of procurement said: ‘We’re proud to have received recognition at these globally important awards for our work to promote waste reduction and material resource efficiency. This has been achieved by thinking ahead, working in a coordinated way across our whole business, and collaborating with our supply chain and customers to reinforce a philosophy of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’.0
