Lafarge seeks to trial Solid Recovered Fuel
Cauldon cement works has applied to trial the firing of a processed household and municipal waste product with a view to reducing its carbon footprint by a further 17,000tonnes of CO2 a year.
Potentially lowering the Staffordshire works coal bill by around 12,500tonnes a year, the SRW material is produced through a British Cement Association (BCA) code of practice on waste derived fuels by Lafarge-owned Glacier.
If given the green light by the Environment Agency, Lafarge will be the first to fire the material which will be fed into the kilns in pellatised form. A decision will be made by late Spring.
