Kleemann jaw crusher for Mick George Group

Kleemann crusher

Quarry operators Mick George are one of the leading construction materials suppliers in East Anglia and the East Midlands. To keep up with virgin and recycled aggregate demands from their customers, the company decided to purchase two new mobile tracked crushers to meet future requirements for increased production.

Mick George sought a machine with a high standard of build quality, durability, versatility, production output, as well as offering a low-carbon footprint and ease of maintenance.

The company reviewed all existing, available mobile crushers on the market but said most of the machines did not meet its requirements. Nonetheless, as part of the review the Kleemann mobile jaw crusher was identified as being one of best quarry crushers in the market and used by some of the industry’s largest demolition companies with great success.

The operational requirements of Mick George were that they wanted a machine that could be used in all segments of their operation, whether it be in their quarries, landfill sites, or crushing and demolition projects.

As a result, the aggregates company took a closer look at the Kleemann range of crushers, part of the Wirtgen Group, and was interested in one particular model.

Mick George contacted Aidan Gillic, southern area sales manager for Wirtgen Ltd, who is responsible for the Kleemann products. After multiple site visits looking at the Kleemann crusher processing various materials, ranging from C&D waste in London to aggregates in Scotland, the management of Mick George wanted to see the machine’s capability on their own sites, tackling the specific difficulties faced by many quarry operators.

With confidence in the product, Mr Gillic suggested that Wirtgen/Kleemann would do a demonstration with one of their used machines, as he believed this would allow Mick George see the crusher’s superior build quality, reliability, high production output, exceptionally low fuel usage and its operator friendliness.

A Kleemann MC110Z duly arrived at Mick George’s Crossleighs Quarry, where the machine was first put to work on concrete material with typical re-bar throughout, which was to be crushed down to approximately 60mm.

The crushed material was then fed into a screen to produce a 0-45mm Type 1  specification. Although the operator was instructed to be selective with the material he was putting in because of its large size and the amount of re-bar mixed through it, very quickly it was apparent the machine could handle larger and more difficult feed material without causing any of the usual blockages or build up that is typical of some crushers of similar opening on the same application.

The Kleemann MC110Z crusher was then moved to the Thornhaugh Quarry, where it operated as the primary crusher within a multi-mobile crushing system requiring multiple single-sized materials ranging from 0-6mm to 25mm. Again, Mick George found that it was possible to feed larger material into the jaw and, with the added pre-screen filter, to increase throughput by 25% on an average day.

The next stop for the mobile crusher was Rushton Quarry, where it worked on a range of aggregates from recycling products to virgin materials. According to Mick George, the MC 110Z performed better than any other machine either demonstrated or rented in the past. It was quickly concluded that the Kleemann MC110Z jaw crusher was the best fit for the company. Mick George therefore purchased two machines, which are being put to work on all the company’s sites and contracts.

Managing director Mick George said: ‘The Kleemann MC110Z ticked all the boxes. We wanted a quality-built machine with high production capability that is economical to run and operator friendly. With the Kleemann crusher we feel we have got all of that and more.’
