JCB strengthen wheel loader range

In 2005 JCB launched their new 456 wheel loader, which offered a larger field of vision and an enhanced operator environment, together with greater performance and serviceability than ever before. These qualities have now been extended to three additional models with the launch of upgraded 426 and 436 models and the brand new 12-tonne JCB 422.

JCB Sales’ executive director, Françoise Rausch, said: ‘The two upgraded models will greatly strengthen JCB’s position in the major wheel loader markets of France, Germany, the UK and North America. We expect the machines to build on their predecessors’ popularity in quarries, construction sites, builders’ yards and recycling facilities.’

The 422 is a completely new development that allows JCB to compete in the key 120–135hp sector, which constitutes 10% of the global market. This 12-tonne, 135hp model will extend the company’s wheel loader offering and is expected to prove popular in concrete batching plants, aggregate rehandling yards and general utility applications.

All three new models have been designed to move greater amounts of material per hour. These productivity benefits are achieved through increased payload capacities of 13% on the 426 and 12% on the 436. The new 422 has a maximum payload capacity of 3.4 tonnes.

Performance has also been enhanced by increasing the machines’ departure angle, which has been improved from 25° to 28°. This provides better clearance at the rear and enhances the machines’ stockpiling performance.

The three machines are available with a range of loader-end configurations to cater for a wide variety of applications; options include new HT high-lift and ZX loader arms. The HT configuration provides a high level of visibility at the loader end, making it suitable to host a range of buckets and attachments, while its high-lift capability allows easy loading into high-sided trucks. The ZX option offers even greater breakout forces and payload capacities, making it particularly suitable for extractive duties and bulk-handling tasks.

A key feature on the new machines is the cab, which provides 50% more interior space and significantly improved comfort and visibility. A wide door opening and conveniently placed grab rails allow easy entry and exit. The three models can be specified with either single or multi-lever controls depending on operator preference.

Other design improvements allow faster servicing and maintenance than on previous and competitive models. All daily checks and fill points can now be accessed from ground level, and cooling packages have been repositioned to allow easy access and cleaning. In addition, rear-axle grease points are now positioned remotely and, on the 426 model, the engine oil-plug has been relocated to speed up the draining process.
