JCB plan new factory in Uttoxeter

JCB have announced plans to build a new factory in Uttoxeter for their Heavy Products business. The state-of-the-art facility will allow the company to meet the growing global demand for its large construction machines and permit the existing town-centre site to be released for redevelopment.

A 50-acre site adjacent to JCB’s World Parts Centre, alongside the A50 in Uttoxeter, has been identified as the preferred location for the new factory, subject to planning permission from East Staffordshire Borough Council.

The relocation of Heavy Products to this location will enable the existing workforce to be retained and will provide additional employment. It will also ensure that the company maintains a presence in Uttoxeter – the original home of JCB.

Commenting on the plans, John Gill, director of JCB Heavy Products, said: ‘We have outgrown our current severely constrained facilities and urgently need a new home, preferably in Uttoxeter. Our dedicated workforce deserves a state-of-the-art factory, and the site for which planning permission is being sought will provide much-needed investment for the town and safeguard their jobs.’

The new site will accommodate a purpose-built factory together with delivery, despatch and lorry parking facilities, as well as car parking space for an estimated 500 staff. It will also provide good communication links with other JCB factories as well as ease of access to the A50 and motorway links.
