Isle of Man debut for Volvo
A 31-tonne Volvo L220E wheel loader has been delivered to Island Aggregates for extraction and rehandling duties at their Point of Ayre sand and gravel quarry.
The loader has been equipped with a 4.9m3 spade-nosed bucket and heavy-duty Volvo teeth to cope with the dense sand and gravel conglomerate found at the site. After appraising the L220E in a similar application in Cheshire, Island Aggregates decided the machine had the right credentials for the job.
The L220E has a breakout force of 178.6kN and full turn tipping load of 20.5 tonnes. The machine is equipped with a Groeneveld Twin automatic greasing system, Loadmaster 800 weight loader provided by RDS, and Michelin XHA tyres. The L220E, in conjunction with a resident 360° excavator used for digging under water, will be expected to produce in the region of 200,000 tonnes of material a year.
