Interlocking Blocks from Elite Precast Concrete

Elite Precast Concrete Ltd are a young and innovative precast concrete company based in Much Wenlock, Shropshire. It was the brainchild of Richard Doody and Alan Johnson who began the business in Jan 2008 with the idea of producing a variety of innovative precast concrete solutions for a wide section of the construction industry.

From four part seating rings (see photo opposite) and cable protection tiles through to bollards, troughs and lids and retaining wall panels, Elite have gained a strong reputation for great value products which can be supplied anywhere in the UK. Their latest innovation is proving to be a real hit with waste and recycling companies and aggregate companies alike - the Interlocking Block System.

The blocks measure 1.2m x 0.6m x 0.45m and weigh 750kgs and interlock using ‘lego’ type connectors. They are dry laid which makes them quick and easy to install. If additional interlocking strength is required the blocks can also be linked together by inserting a connecting steel rod through the middle of the blocks.

Capping pieces are available to give a great looking finish and should the blocks ever need to be moved that is easily done by using a simple ‘Deha’ type lifting pin.

The blocks are ideal for a variety of applications such as -

  • Bay walls for bulk material storage
  • Silage clamps
  • Earth retention
  • Security/property protection
  • Traffic calming etc

The system was recently specified by Power Plane Ltd of Hinckley, Leics who required a solution for preventing damage to a warehouse wall as the building was required for the storage of tar bound planing arisings.

The arisings would normally have to be disposed of as hazardous waste in a landfill facility at an average cost of £110 per tonne. Power Plane decided to convert a building using the Elite Interlocking Block system as a push wall. Once the arisings have been dry stored they will be recycled into a foam mix base or binder course using a Wirtgen KMA220 plant supplied by Basecon UK Ltd

Ian Chattington from Power Plane Ltd said ‘the simple and cost effective solution provided by Elite’s blocks has meant that we can recycle a material that would otherwise have been disposed of in a landfill site. The blocks were quick to install and we can move them easily should we need to’
