Imerys and Cemex dominate RoSPA awards
China clay operator Imerys and Mexican cement giant Cemex have hauled 16 of the 21 health and safety gongs in the mining and quarry sector entries in this year’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards.
Imerys’ Trebal Refiner in Par, Cornwall secured overall sector winner for the third year running, while the firm's Blackpool refurbishment plant, rocks dryer and drilling and blasting sections in St Austell all picked up Gold awards.
Cemex Aggregates & Asphalt Eastern and Ready-Mix Eastern in Wangford both secured President’s Awards for 11 consecutive Gold Awards, while Western (Readymix) in Bristol, and South East (Aggregates) and South East (Ready-mix) in Thorpe all won Gold.
Other Cemex Materials UK Gold’s were secured by Scotland, North East - Aggregate & Asphalt Division, North East - Readymix Division, North West - Aggregates & Asphalt, Western (Aggregates), and North West – Readymix.
Congratulations also to D Wardle (plant) in Warrington for securing Gold, along with Power Plant Excavations in Chesterfield and Whitemountain Quarries in Lisburn, Country Antrim.
Across all sectors there were 1,500 winners this year. Entrants are judged on the development of their occupational health and safety management systems and culture, control of risk and levels of error, harm and loss.
