Hyundai reach major production milestone
South Korean manufacturer hands over its 500,000th construction machine to a customer
HYUNDAI Heavy Industries (HHI) have reached a significant manufacturing milestone by handing over their 500,000th construction machine – a 52-tonne HX520 excavator – to a customer. The equipment production record was achieved 28 years after the company introduced its first excavator in 1987.
Since then, HHI have emerged as a major player in the construction equipment market with one of the broadest product lines among Korean manufacturers. The company’s product portfolio includes: 1.5-tonne excavators; 30-tonne forklifts; and 120-tonne excavators. HHI have also announced their eco-friendly and high-efficiency HX-series excavator models.
Making inroads into the global construction equipment market with five overseas production factories in China, India and Brazil, the company achieved US$2.7 billion in worldwide sales in 2014. This year, HHI aim to secure US$3.0 billion in global sales.
Rhee Sang-gi, chief operating officer of HHI’s construction equipment division, commented: ‘We will continue to introduce new models with improved quality and performance, and solidify our position as a reliable manufacturer in the international construction equipment market.’
