St Helens-based paving firm takes delivery of four new ABG paving machines from Ammann

HUYTON Asphalt Ltd have long been supporters of ABG pavers, so it was no surprise that the St Helens-based paving business purchased the first ABG pavers produced by Ammann at the ABG factory in Hameln, Germany.

‘Backup and support are critical and have been a large part of our decision to stay with the ABG brand,’ said James Blennerhassett, managing director of Huyton. ‘Ammann’s ownership of ABG played an important part in our recent purchase of four new pavers this year.’

Huyton say that whilst they have explored other manufacturers, they have always chosen ABG, noting that besides the superior quality of the ABG line, the variety of models ensures there is a proper size for their varied jobsites.

‘Our loyalty and affiliation to ABG is due to the relationships we have had with the people,’ said Mr Blennerhassett. ‘Ultimately, they give us the confidence in the brand. It is incredibly important to be able to talk to knowledgeable and experienced people familiar with the complexities of paving.’

Huyton, who celebrate their 55th anniversary in 2025, take pride in being an industry innovator and supporter of new technologies. The company also pursues sustainability through its commitment to low-carbon materials and low-emission equipment, as evidenced by the new machines, which feature the distinctive eco-friendly HALO logo and colours.

Likewise, Ammann continue to explore the use of eco-fuels to advance sustainability on jobsites. This includes hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), which has been approved for use in all Ammann diesel-burning machines.

Made from waste such as animal fat or processed vegetable oils, HVO is classified as a renewable diesel biofuel and renowned for having a longer shelf life than other biodiesels. All new ABG pavers arrive filled with HVO.

According to Ammann, HVO reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90%, with no additional costs. Every 1,000 litres of standard diesel fuel burned produces c.2,640kg of CO2, compared with just 260kg of CO2 for every 1,000 litres of HVO burned.

Moreover, HVO-compatible Ammann machines require no engine modifications to burn the biofuel, which provides the same performance as diesel while also reducing particulate matter emissions and associated maintenance.
