Hazemag to supply world’s largest recycling plant

Dubai-based Emirates Recycling LLC, a member of the Al Rostamani Group, have recently reached an agreement with the Government of Dubai, whereby the company will accept all construction and demolition waste (CDW) arisings from the municipality and recycle it into roadbase and other aggregate materials.

Until now, building rubble from Dubai’s booming construction industry has generally been dumped on huge tips in the desert, but recognizing that this method of disposal is extremely damaging to the environment and is creating problems for future generations, Dubai’s leading policy-makers have decided that in future all CDW material should be recycled.

Following a fact-finding visit to the Netherlands to see Bentum Recycling Central BV’s 1,000 tonnes/h Hazemag rubble-crushing plant at the Port of Rotterdam, Emirates Recycling selected Hazemag & EPR GmbH to supply the necessary technology to meet their own substantial recycling requirements.

Together, the two companies evolved a concept that will not only meet the immediate task in hand, but also take into account rapid capacity build-up in the future. The plan comprises two stages: first, the supply of two semi-mobile recycling plants, each with a capacity of 280 tonnes/h; and secondly, the delivery of a static plant capable of handling 1,300 tonnes/h. This will include the use of the world’s largest impact crusher featuring a GSK-type rotor measuring 3m in width and 2.5m in diameter. In both stages, product comprising at least 95% –60mm material will be generated.

The contract between Emirates Recycling and Hazemag was signed in Dubai in December 2007, with the first stage scheduled to begin operations early this year. The second stage is expected to commence production in May 2009, and there is also an option on the table for a third stage comprising a second 1,300 tonnes/h static plant, which would give Emirates Recycling a total capacity of around 3,000 tonnes/h.
